What is EFT?
EFT is a relatively new and highly effective form of energy psychology, combining modern psychological techniques and ancient meridian energy knowledge. It is simple, gentle but also incredibly powerful, and goes to the root cause of many emotional and physical problems. It often works where nothing else will.
EFT is like acupuncture for our emotions but without needles. It involves tapping with fingertips on known energy points while focusing on the problem. This tapping clears any energy blockages. It’s these blockages that make us feel angry, scared, sad or any other negative emotion. Where it differs from conventional talk-therapies is that it also involves the body’s energy system and that’s what usually makes the difference between success and partial relief or failure.

How does it work?
EFT is based on this statement: “All negative emotions are caused by disruptions in the body’s energy system”
These disruptions are like leaves restricting or blocking the flow of water in a stream. We experience these disruptions as one or more negative emotions such as sadness, anger or fear. If negative emotions are energy disruptions and occur in the body it makes sense that we would feel them there. That's why we usually have a body sensation to accompany the emotion such as a churning tummy.
Tapping on known energy meridian points clears these disruptions. No energy disruptions means the negative emotions connected to the problem have gone. After successfully applying EFT, you can have the same thought as before but there are no more negative feelings connected to it. Upsetting memories fade because they just don't matter any more.

I'm not convinced
To those that haven’t experienced energy techniques before, the above description of EFT may sound pretty weird and far-fetched. I was an engineer for 20 years and I was sceptical too when I first heard about EFT. I needed to see hard evidence so I tried it and saw the results for myself.
Because it can seem strange at first, I offer a free initial consultation so you can try EFT for yourself and see it in action before going ahead. It works equally well on sceptics! What have you got to lose?

Is the relief permanent?
Yes, it usually is. EFT gets to the root cause of a problem instead of masking it. If a problem does return it will usually be because a part of the problem that wasn’t addressed in the first place has emerged.

How can one simple technique be effective on so many different issues?
In an age when we are used to having specialist methods for specific problems, EFT seems to go against conventional thinking. However, EFT is based on this statement: “All negative emotions are caused by disruptions in the body’s energy system”. All our negative emotional reactions in all their complexity are ultimately caused by one thing, energy disruptions. If we have one technique that addresses energy disruptions like EFT, then it doesn’t matter what the emotional issue is, the method of addressing it is the same (see below for physical issues).

How can it possibly work on physical issues?
The same energy disruptions I referred to above are often behind many of our physical aches and pains too, even the most chronic and severe pain. Physical problems are affected by our emotional state such as increased stress causing back pain. Illness, disease and pain can actually be caused by emotions, especially traumatic ones, that may have been left unresolved for a long time.
Clearing the energy disruptions using the simple EFT process often brings rapid relief. Sometimes emotional issues contributing to the problem need to be addressed using EFT as well. This often leads to significant relief or even complete resolution of many physical issues. Allergies, IBS, ME, fibromyalgia, arthritis, carpal tunnel and many more regardless of the cause or where it is in the body all usually respond well to EFT. It even provides significant relief from physical issues where there is damage to the body.
If something in your body isn’t healing as it should then it may be time to look at the emotional or psychological aspects of why this may be. Using EFT, I have seen people with chronic pain from an old injury be pain free once they have resolved the anger about how the injury was sustained.

Are EFT's results due to either the placebo effect or distraction?
No, you do not have to believe in EFT for it to work. It works equally well on sceptics and most people have no belief in EFT when they first try it, yet it still works.
EFT is the very opposite of distraction because for it to work it requires you to focus on the problem while tapping.

It can’t possibly work, it’s so simple.
E.F.T. or Emotional Freedom Techniques is the healing phenomenon of the moment. While the EFT process is simple it’s one of the most powerful healing techniques yet devised and can work very deeply. Many psychological or emotional healing methods are aimed at the human mind but that is not where the actual problem is. Our mind influences the body's energy system and it's there that our negative emotions are held. EFT works directly with the energy system instead of trying to work via the mind. Complex emotions can be broken down and resolved by applying the simple EFT process to them.

EFT doesn’t work, I tried it on myself but it had no effect.
While many people have had great success applying it to themselves, some don’t get that same level of success or as quickly. In skilled hands it is rare for EFT not to work. There are various reasons why it may not have worked for you.
The EFT routine may not have been applied correctly or thoroughly enough. Perhaps the problem was approached too broadly and needs to be broken down into smaller pieces. There may be a key part of the problem that hasn’t been addressed. Some problems are not the real problem. Sometimes a deeper underlying issue can keep a problem in place. It may be time to consider working with an EFT practitioner. They will have an outside view and see things you may not be able to.

How is it possible to have a session over the phone?
Many people have difficulty accepting that a therapy session can be conducted by phone. It somehow seems wrong and that the work should be done face to face. A typical session involves you being asked questions to reveal the nature of the problem. Any feelings you report are usually quickly tapped away. If you are happy to tap on yourself then you don’t need to be face to face with your EFT practitioner. Many people like the convenience that working by phone offers.

What does an EFT session involve?
A typical session lasts about 1½ hours up to 2 hours maximum.
There will an initial discussion to find out what you would like help with, the nature of the problem and how progress can be tested.
You may prefer to tap on yourself or have me tap on you while you focus on the problem. It’s your choice. You will spend most of the session tapping and talking and answering questions designed to get to the root of the problem. You will often be asked to report the intensity of any feelings being tapped away so we can both gauge progress.
You will NOT be asked to face your fear or re-live a past trauma to somehow get over it. Sophisticated and gentle ways of applying the EFT tapping process can be used that will significantly reduce the emotional sting out of a situation or memory before having to recall it. A phobia will not be tested until you are completely happy to do so.
It is common for the EFT process to leave you feeling relaxed but tired at the end of a session.
