EFT - For the Sceptic

It's Not About Believing!
The likelyhood of success using EFT is not dependant on whether or not you believe in the process.
EFT may seem a bit weird when you first see it or experience it for yourself. It was to me! To some of course, EFT will not seem an option for them because it just will not plug into their belief system and that's OK. There are a huge number of healing methodologies out there to choose from. That doesn't mean that you have to believe in EFT for it to work. If you are prepared to do the work, you will likely achieve your goal.
Try it! What have you got to lose?
Fundamental to EFT is the existence of subtle energy meridians in the body.
Western medicine has begun the process of acknowledging their existence. Acupuncture is now being offered on the National Health Service in the UK and is approved of by the British Medical Association. That doesn't mean that it has been completely accepted, far from it, but it does indicate that a shift in thinking has begun.
Mankind has gone through many changes in thinking that have included fierce argument, bitter rivalry and much mud-slinging particularly in the field of science and medicine. Doctors' views on energy meridians have much in common with the history into the research of the causes of disease. In the 1840s, German scientist Jacob Henle proposed that infectious organisms existed that were too small to be seen with the microscopes of the day. Because they couldn't be seen his hypothesis was not accepted. Their existence could be inferred but not proven. A hot debate and much research ensued for decades before these organisms became known as viruses. Energy meridians cannot yet be easily measured but their existence can be inferred by the benefits gained from a variety of energy meridian based techniques including EFT. In time the weight of evidence and the development of technology will show them to be very real. This assumes of course that funding for this research will be provided at a level that will bring forth a new era for medicine. In this age where drug companies rule, there may not be the appetite for such discoveries. Time will tell.
Sceptical FAQs
How can one technique be effective on so many things and such a wide range of problems?
We are used to having different "tools" for different jobs. Modern medicine works that way, so does an engineer and so on. Remember the core statement behind EFT is that "the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system". Any condition, issue or behaviour that has an emotional component to it will benefit from removing the effects of the disruption in our energy systems caused by those emotions. Since EFT removes the disruption, you can apply the same technique to a huge range of issues.
Clearly our minds influence our beliefs, attitudes and behaviour. They are created by our life experiences (specific events) and by authority figures in our formative years etc. These create emotional responses. We interact with our world on an emotional level. If we did it on a logical level, many of the world's problems would never have existed! For example, smoking is an emotional decision not a logical one. Any problem that has an "emotional" component to it will be affected by our subtle energy system because "The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system". Because the EFT technique removes that disruption, any problem that has an emotional component to it will be improved.
How can EFT affect physical health?
Evidence is steadily mounting that our minds and therefore our thoughts and beliefs (both conscious and subconscious) profoundly influence our health. As we are all emotional beings and interact with our world at an emotional level, our health is directly connected to our emotional state. So beliefs, attitudes, fears, traumatic events etc are all contributing to our physical health as well as our mental state. Mind and body are connected and our subtle energy system is a bridge between them. We may not see the effects immediately but in the long term they are often apparent. An obvious example would be having beliefs that create a stressful life (e.g."I must do things perfectly" or "I must be in control"). In this instance stress related illnesses may emerge after a period of time and when a tipping point is reached or life events make these beliefs impossible to maintain.
Another example seems more arcane but the body will often have aches, pains, diseases or illness as metaphors for our lives. This clearly demonstrates our holistic nature, that mind and body are inseparable. What affects one must affect the other. When EFT is applied to these types of problems, partial or complete relief is usually obtained when the thoughts leading to these ailments are revealed.
EFT is just a placebo or distraction isn't it?
Just try it! You don’t have to believe in it for it to work. In fact most newcomers don’t, I didn't! That’s what makes the results all the more impressive and rules out the placebo effect. As for it being distraction, it’s the very opposite. You are required to tune into the problem not think of something else.
The tapping is bogus, it's the talking that's doing the therapy!
The purpose of talking while doing the tapping is to keep the client focussed on the issue so the energetic disruption is front and centre so the tapping can work. It's the tapping that ultimately brings relief. Talking and questioning are also used to reveal any core issues behind the problem and to challenge beliefs. It's a major part of the art of delivering EFT. If the talking was the active component then EFT's success rate would be in line with standard talk therapies but in skilled hands it is much higher. I have worked with clients that have had plenty of talk therapy but have failed to get relief despite having all the possible learnings and insights they need to let their issue go.
